Social Media for Small Business
Twitter, Blogs and Facebook can Make money for your Company
Most of my Web Site Design clients know they need a web site for their business, but actually know little about how a web site can help grow their business, no matter what they manufacture, sell or offer as services. They know even less about how I work to get their site to the first page of Google when someone searches for a product they sell.
Just when they start to understand the basics of selling on the internet to customer hundreds or thousands of miles away, I suggest a blog or twitter to try to improve their sales, and they are lost again. So, if you are in that boat, here are a few ways social media may help your business make more sales.
Real Photos - Photos used on a web site of work being done has a much better connection to people than a just a photo of a completed project. One of my customers who has a furniture refinishing business put his photo on his web site showing him at work on a lathe and photos of his workers doing careful hand work on a chair. People who see his web site automatically connect with him because the “see” the care and skill he uses while working on furniture. People tell him that as soon as they see the first page of his site, they know they have found the right place.
Blog - A company blog is one of the best ways to connect to your existing customers about new products and services you offer. It is a living document that people can read to get helpful hints about new products or new ways of doing business. It brings people back into perspective and connects people to people, instead of people to a machine that has item number, description and price. The blog lets you extend a helping hand to customers, it gives you the ability to put your face and thoughts online for people to connect to. A blog has many uses for delivering up to date information, and you do not have to be a web designer to make it look great and supplement your web site.
Twitter - Twitter is one of my favorite ways to get the word out when I update any of my client’s web sites. Another thing about Twitter is that every tweet with a text link to your web site helps your placement on the search engines. It is quick way to establish lines of communication to specific people or new prospective customers. Try it - it’s fun!
